It's time to hear from another TAAF Staffer on their recommendations for music, travel, AAPI small businesses, and more!

Tell us what you do at TAAF, and where you’re based.

I’m the Deputy Director of Rapid Response and am currently working to build out TAAF’s rapid response work as well as the TAAF Legal Network (TLN). Given TAAF's pillars of Safety, Prosperity, and Belonging, the goal is to be able to provide support for individuals impacted by anti-Asian hate and bias, xenophobia, racial profiling, discrimination and provide support for AAPI owned small businesses (in cases of robbery and/or vandalism).

I’m originally from Colorado, but I’ve lived in NYC for 12 years now and I think after the 10 year mark you’re officially allowed to say you’re a New Yorker!

‍What films or TV shows are you excited about right now?

I know people love to hate on reality TV but I love it! In so many ways, it’s like a crash course in sociology and a study of human behavior—and it’s entertaining! I watch all of the Real Housewives and shows like Love is Blind. I also love a feel-good show. I just binged the new season of Ted Lasso and really enjoyed Shrinking. I also just watched You Can See Everything , the Nathan Fielder doc about Elizabeth Holmes. The more I think about it and process it, the more my views evolve. If you’ve seen it, let’s discuss!

Do you have a favorite book or author you're reading?

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books. I first read it in middle school and the whole book, specifically the character of Atticus Finch, really shaped my views on moral courage, empathy, and standing up for what is right.

What song is on repeat on your playlist?

Diljit Dosanjh is on every playlist of mine—and should be on yours too! He’s iconic. Earlier this year, I had the chance to see him at Madison Square Garden and it felt like witnessing part of history being made. He’s not only the first Punjabi Sikh artist to sell out MSG two nights in a row, but the first South Asian artist to do so.

What's your top travel destination or bucket list vacation?

I just went to Japan for the first time and it was incredible! The food, the culture of consideration, the organized chaos—I loved it all. I’m already looking forward to the next trip!

Any local AAPI owned restaurants or small businesses that you recommend?‍

Punjabi Deli! They started as a rest stop and a place to decompress for New York City's South Asian cab drivers. They’re the best for a warm cup of chai and Punjabi comfort food. I also love my nail salon, Lexi Nails. It’s the one place in NYC where I’m a regular and they know me by name.

Stay tuned for picks from another TAAF staffer next month!
