Our Approach

Though we were founded in crisis, TAAF is committed to promoting safety, fostering belonging, and advancing prosperity for the AANHPI community for the long-term.

Through strategic grantmaking and innovative programming, TAAF is focused on addressing the AANHPI community's most pressing needs in order to drive the greatest impact.
Promoting Safety
Safety remains the top overall concern for our community nationwide and will continue to be a priority for TAAF. Our efforts will focus on initiatives that enhance safety by preventing and reducing physical attacks, verbal harassment, and other bias-driven harm, including robberies.
Fostering Belonging
Our research indicates that misrepresentation and misinformation are the most prevalent negative experiences impacting our community. TAAF remains committed to education and narrative change, working to dismantle harmful stereotypes—such as the model minority myth, the perpetual foreigner perception, and the yellow peril narrative—and build greater belonging for our community.
Advancing Prosperity
In economic opportunity, which is the second highest priority for our community overall, we will focus on efforts that promote leadership development and success, improve access to better job opportunities, and provide meaningful support to AANHPI small businesses.
Here is how our strategy works:
1.
Lead with research
We will publish deeper research and data to better understand the needs of AANHPI communities, which can help inform the strategies and activities of our grantees.
2.
Convene and build coalitions
Leveraging our power to convene, we will bring the community together to find and fund solutions through strategic grantmaking, while creating more ways for organizations to connect with potential funders.
3.
Pilot solutions
We will increase our engagement and support for local partners, and pilot innovative solutions with them. Our hope is that community members across the country can soon access a healthy ecosystem of nonprofits and better direct services.
4.
Scale programs
Along with co-funders and community partners, we will invest in scaling successful programs, making sure these projects have long-term, sustainable impact.
Six principles guide our work.
