TAAF Statement on Anti-Asian Attacks in NYC

October 30, 2025 – We are appalled by the series of violent attacks targeting Asian residents in Manhattan on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, including an unprovoked assault on the family member of a former TAAF employee on a subway platform. We wish a speedy recovery for all the victims, and while a suspect is reportedly in custody, TAAF will continue to monitor the situation as the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force investigates the incidents.

These attacks underscore the urgent safety challenges facing the nearly two million Asian Americans that call New York City home. According to TAAF’s NYC Safety Study, one in five Asian American New Yorkers reported being physically attacked in 2023. And our 2025 STAATUS Index found that 63% of Asian Americans nationwide feel unsafe in everyday spaces, especially on public transportation. We urge swift accountability in this case and call on anyone who feels they are a victim or witness of anti-Asian hate or bias in NYC to submit an incident report to aapihatetracker.org.
