Anti-Hate Data Group

The Anti-Hate Data Group will develop open source documentation and tools to promote the adoption of a unified standard for reporting hate crimes.

To ensure more consistent and accurate hate data, TAAF is supporting Stop AAPI Hate to lead and convene a working group to develop consistent practices for documenting and analyzing hate incidents targeting the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. This group will grow to include other members from academia, policy, industry, and civil rights organizations. The working group will aim to develop best practices around collecting and analyzing hate data.

Good Data Matters

Anti-AAPI hate incidents are not new to Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, however the recent spike in news reporting underscores the limitation of media coverage and the dearth of comprehensive data to fully represent the extent and the nature of hate targeting Asian American and Pacific Islander peoples in the United States. There is an opportunity to create a sustained effort to track hate that doesn’t surface in the headlines. We hope to share a draft of the hate incident standards with community organizations and advocates for feedback and comments by year’s end.

Shaping the Future

Trust matters. We want to build trust among the community and foster a culture for reporting. We want to build a foundation for a new and sustainable ecosystem for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to report, analyze, and ultimately combat hate against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across the United States.
